Bagrationi 1882 is the largest producer of sparkling wine in Georgia. API purchased a controlling interest of the company in a government privatization tender in late 1997.
Since production began under API, Bagrationi has become the market leader in Georgia for sparkling wine. In full production, the company employs 175 people. The "Royal Bagrationi" brand has the number one market position in Georgia with over 60 percent of the local sparkling wine market. It is sold throughout the country by a small number of distributors.
Bagrationi is establishing a foothold in Russia and is now distributing three products in that country, primarily in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The business is well positioned to grow due to the low cost of local production and the historical preference for Georgian wine and sparkling wine, combined with inroads into Russia.
